31st May

A trip on the bike to Honiton (to collect Fuzzy). From there, we both rode to the southern flank of Dartmoor, to the High Brown Fritillary hotspot of Aish Tor.

Great sightings of this species (perhaps 30 or 40 specimens) and a chance to see them up close. A “bucket list” species for me and a chance to capture a few photographs. Plenty of other “lepidoptera” on the wing – Small Pearl Bordered Fritillary being the other highlight. Afterwards, a ride to nearby Hembury Wood (just above Buckfastleigh), but that proved less productive. Then a ride back to Honiton, and then home.
