In neither Paris nor Rome, this hotel is to be found at Menton to the east of Monaco, close to the Italian border. It was my base for a night after the final stint of the Route Des Grande Alpes, having set off from Barcelonnette in the morning. I arrived hot and sweaty as the summer 2019 French heatwave started to build.
