A (rather ambitious) weekend to “ride the Bristol Channel coast” from The Mumbles to Land’s End.
On the 15th, it was a ride up to The Mumbles, near Swansea from where the ride would commence on the following morning. The aim of the day was to ride from the Mumbles to Clovelly in Devon taking in all the coast roads. A varied ride through areas both pleasant and much less so, and some new places such for me as Porthcawl, the Glamorgan Heritage Coast (a nice surprise), Barry, Clevedon (for lunch and rain shelter), Brean, the Porlock “tool road”, the Valley of the Rocks near Lynton and Clovelly itself.
On the 16th, it was more of the same, from Clovelly to Land’s End, taking in virgin territories such as Hartland Quay, Port Isaac, Polzeath and Portreath. I stopped for a extended break at Sennen Cove contemplating the ride back to home. Then the final push to Land’s End, and then heading home via Mousehole and Penzance.
It was 800 miles on mostly winding roads in les than 2.5 days. But I did it!
