A return trip up to the East Midlands, this time with Fuzz, again staying on the outskirts of Corby.
We had a successful visit to Fineshade Wood, getting sightings and photographs of the Chequered Skipper, our target species.
Afterwards, we turned our attention to finding the Black Hairstreak, visiting Glapthorn Cow Pasture a few miles from Fineshade. Despite a good look around, we concluded that this species was yet to emerge, at least at that site. Following helpful news posted of first Black Hairstreak sightings of the year at Monks Wood near Huntingdon, we decided to concentrate our efforts there and were successful in observing several freshly emerged specimens, though we had no opportunities of capturing “good” images. Nonetheless we were happy.
