29th March – 2nd April

– Setting off for an Easter weekend in York. Amanda and Zac would travel up on the train, and I’d go a day early on the motorcycle.

Had a long, somewhat dangerous ride in poor, wet conditions to reach Ely (with much relief). My route was along the northern fringe of Salisbury Plain, Berkshire and across the Chilterns.

The ride from Ely to York was in better weather (actually felt like spring), via Littleport, Downham Market, a stop in Kings Lynn, then skirting the Wash, Boston, and the coast road to Skegness. Then, across the Lincolnshire Wolds to Lincoln itself for another stop. Heading north then via Scunthorpe, Goole and then York.

We enjoyed York, had a good look around, visited the National Railway Museum, the York Minster and Clifford’s Tower among other things.

The route home (in grim wet and at times snowy weather) was via Selby, Worksop, the Sherwood Forest, Grantham, Melton Mowbray and west to Lutterworth, then picking up the Fosseway towards home.
