A morning visit to “The Bustard” area of Salisbury Plain, still searching in vain for Lesser Whitethroat. Instead of the target species which again eluded me, there were plenty of “normal” Whitethroats, plus Garden Warbler, Corn Bunting, Yellowhammer and Blackcap to name a few. Interestingly, the Merlin app picked up Woodlark and Dartford Warbler, though I remain unconvinced about the accuracy of this (Merlin can sometimes mishear certain species).
In terms of insects, it was good to see several Small Coppers, Orange Tips, Brimstones, Holly Blues (which seem to be having a great first brood), a Dingy Skipper, a freshly emerged Small Heath, a Wall Brown and in the garden of The Bustard café, a Narrow Bordered Bee Hawkmoth.
