25th – 26th April

A ride out to the area around “The Bustard” on Salisbury Plain (near Larkhill) in search of the Lesser Whitethroat, which I heard but didn’t see. There were plenty of “normal” Whitethroats” though, plus Corn Buntings, Yellowhammers, Stonechats and so on. The Merlin App picked up a couple of Woodlark calls, but I’m not convinced it was hearing correctly! In addition, bits of various writing project work.

On the Sunday evening (26th), I headed for the open woodland area above Shearwater Lake in the Longleat estate in hope of an early Nightjar arrival, though it was likely a week or so too early. However, to my surprise, I heard what was probably the first Nightjar to arrive at the site – I’ll be going back to check again over the next fortnight or so.
