Field Notes From The Knepp Wildlands – June 2023

Fuzz and I enjoyed a spectacular visit to the Knepp Wildlands in late June, where we saw an incredible hatch of Purple Emperor.

It was a rare day, and something we’re both glad that we witnessed. We perhaps saw 70 specimens.

Photographically, I captured a male Purple Emperor visiting a sap bleed at low level, and image of which I used as the cover for my Butterfly Effect 2024 Calendar. – JC
