Based out of Penzance, we went out in search of Basking Sharks with locally based Shark expert Charles Hood. The “Baskers” hadn’t been seen in great number this year and we weren’t in luck on this occasion. We did, however, get a chance snorkel with a seal population just off Land’s End.

On the “travel home” day we visited St. Mawes and Mevagissey.

12th – 14th June

A thoroughly enjoyable motorcycling trip around the coast of East Anglia.

The trip started by a stopover in Guildford to get recall and an MOT on “the machine”.

Once done, on the Friday afternoon, it was a ride from Guildford to Dunwich on the Suffolk Coast around the M25, under the Thames at Dartford and then heading through Essex to Manningtree from where the roads got more interesting taking in Woodbridge, Tunstall, Aldeburgh, Thorpeness, Leiston and a nice ride via the Minsmere RSPB Reserve to Dunwich.

Saturday took in Southwold, Kessingland, Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth, Winterton-on-Sea, Horsey (with its windmill), Sea Palling, Eccles-on-Sea, Happisburgh, Bacton, Mundesley, Cromer, Sheringham, Cley-Next-The-Sea and Blakeney for an overnight stay.

Homeward bound via Stiffkey, Wells-Next-The-Sea, Burham Market, Brancaster, Hunstanton, Heacham, Snettisham, Sandringham, Swaffham, Mundford, Thetford Forest, Brandon, Lakenheath, the Fens, Cambridge, the Lodge at Sandy and cross country back to Wiltshire.

A few detours in Norfolk to a couple of Nature Reserves added to the mileage.

A very memorable weekend.

Also article writing en route with my laptop.

2nd June

Though started some time ago, we revisited some previous work – a supplement and brochure centred around our dive travels in Eastern Australia between 2007 and 2010. The new proof looks good.

11th May

An overnight stay in London, taking in a gig at the iconic Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club (this time the incredible Pat Martino).

8th – 10th May

An excellent motorcycling weekend Wales. The biking in earnest started in the Wye Valley, staying in Tintern on the Friday night. Saturday took in Monmouth, the back road to Abergavenny followed by the back road to Brecon in rain and showers. After that, the weather improved for the stint to Llandovery.

After that, some brilliant mountain roads taking in Cilycwm and Ystradfin eventually appearing back onto a main road at Tregaron. From there, great flowing roads all the way to Devil’s Bridge passing Cors Goch Llanllwch National Nature Reserve, overnight at the Hafod Arms Hotel.

Sunday riding took in another set of mountain roads past Nant-Y-Moch Reservoir to Tal-Y-Bont. Then, a stint on the main road to Machynlleth and onto another mountain road route to Llanidloes. Then Newtown, Montgomery and a stop-off in Church Stoke to see my old buddy Carl.

Homeward bound took me via Bishop’s Castle, Clun, Knighton and Presteigne to Hereford. Then to Monmouth, the Forest of Dean, Lydney, Chepstow and back home over the Severn Bridge.

3rd May

Jeremy and Zac trek the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust’s sponsorship flagship the Sarsens Trail (the Neolithic marathon) from Avebury to Bulford near Stonehenge. It was a tough 26 mile walk in rain, sun and thunder and lightning. Jeremy later lost both big toe nails thanks to this!
