Image of the Month 2013
December 2013
You don’t have to be somewhere exotic to get interesting underwater images. This one features our son Zac in a UK swimming pool riding an underwater “scooter”. Image taken on 11th November 2011 using a Nikon D200. Settings were ISO 800, f8, 1/60th second.
November 2013
One late afternoon in Bandos, I asked Amanda and Zac to stand on the jetty whilst I shot some split level images. This was my favourite. Image taken in the Maldives on 10th April 2012 using a Nikon D200. Settings were ISO 100, f11, 1/60th second.
October 2013
Sharks always attract attention dives! Here, I edged into a tiny cave to photograph this fine nurse shark specimen up close, hoping that it wouldn’t try to escape. Luckily, it stayed exactly where I needed it to. Image taken in the Maldives on 7th April 2012 using a Nikon D200. Settings were ISO 100, f8, 1/60th second.
September 2013
Shrimpfish (or Razorfish as they’re sometimes known) are infuriating subjects to photograph, so I was particularly pleased with this image captured at Tulamben in Bali. Image taken on 31st May 2012 using a Nikon D200. Settings were ISO 100, f16, 1/60th second.
August 2013
This image shows “movement” as a startled stingray makes its escape from my close attentions. Image taken on 5th June 2012 using a Nikon D200. Settings were ISO 400, f8, 1/20th second.
July 2013
The dives around Bali aren’t short on the weird and wonderful! This pleasing image shows the face of a boxfish at the Lombok View dive site. Image taken on 31st May 2012 using a Nikon D200. Settings were ISO 100, f16, 1/60th second.
June 2013
The Bandos house reef offers some excellent diving, regardless of the direction you swim. Here, my friend Simon peers into a small cave full of tiny baitfish. Image taken on 12th April 2012 using a Nikon D200. Settings were ISO 100, f8, 1/80th second.
May 2013
This image shows a diver and schooling fish at Lankan Reef in the Maldives. The mantas hadn’t turned up that day, so I had to work on something else photographically. Image taken on 9th April 2012 using a Nikon D200. Settings were ISO 100, f8, 1/600th second.
April 2013
I liked these Striped Catfish faces from a dive in Bali, based out of the excellent Scuba Seraya dive resort at Tulamben. Image taken on 3rd June 2012 using a Nikon D200. Settings were ISO 200, f22, 1/60th second.
March 2013
On one of the “Bubblemaker” dives in Bandos, our son Zac and his friend Thomas encounter a turtle on the house reef, with the instructor hanging onto them. Image taken on 9th April 2012 using a Nikon D200.Settings were ISO 100, f8, 1/100th second.
February 2013
The Liberty Wreck at Tulamben in Bali is one of the far east’s most iconic wreck dives. This image shows the scale of this wreck, with a group divers exploring the shallower areas. Image taken on 5th June 2012 using a Nikon D200. Settings were ISO 400, f8, 1/60th second.
