Field Notes From Australia & Singapore – October/November 2024

One of our favourite trips, I think, divided into four distinct parts; the Daintree Rainforest area, the Far North Great Barrier Reef onboard the Spirit of Freedom dive liveaboard, Mt. Mulligan in the Queensland Outback, and Singapore on the way home.

The whole trip was a great opportunity for us to get into travel and photography, though we did experience some “gear problems” in terms of the underwater rigs on the Spirit of Freedom which particularly affected my images, as I ended up with no working strobes, caused by a hot shoe issue. This meant I had to resort to “natural light” photography whilst on the dives, whilst Amanda did her preferred macro photography. Her highlight was getting images of mating Clownfish. – JC

Field Notes From Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic – August 2024

Again, rather like our visits to Japan and Sicily, we took advantage of capturing opportunistic images of this brilliant town in the South West of the Czech Republic. – JC

Field Notes From Motorcycling In Europe, the Faroe Islands & Iceland – June/July 2024

Very much a bucket list trip for me, which my old mate Fuzz embarked on with me.

Fuzz isn’t especially interested in photography, but I was determined to capture a representative record of our trip.

Unusually for me, I supplemented “camera taken” images with mobile phone images.

Fuzz and I rode with intercoms so that we could talk whilst riding, which was helpful when discussing where to stop for photos. Sometimes I would capture Fuzz “riding away from me, into the landscape.”

Shooting images whilst motorcycling isn’t the easiest thing to juggle, so I kept my SLR kitted with a wide angle lens, and a zoom lens in case I wanted to change, in my tank bag for easy access.

A fabulous trip! – JC

Field Notes From Sicily & The Aeolian Islands – May 2024

Rather similar to our Japan visit, there wasn’t much in the way of “concentrated photography”, but we captured some images of where we went – Taormina, staying on Lipari and visiting Salina, Panarea and Stromboli, the “lighthouse of the Mediterranean”. – JC

Field Notes From Japan – April 2024

Some good photo opportunities whilst visiting sites around Nagoya city, the Shirakawa-gō World Heritage site the Japanese Grand Prix at the iconic Suzuka Circuit, Kyoto and Tokyo.

It was mostly what I might describe as “non-focused, opportunistic grab shots”, but some interesting images nonetheless. – JC
