A ride to Bahnstormer at Alton. I made tentative steps towards a new R1200 GS Adventure. Also, working on Part.2 of a feature for Cumbria Butterfly Conservation.



31st July

A ride out to Salisbury Plain with Fuzz to the Bustard area near Larkhill in search of the Essex Skipper. Our mission was successful and we completed our project of seeing/identifying all species of UK butterfly. I captured some decent images. Later, we visited Battlesbury Hill to finish off our season.



6th – 7th August

Writing Pt.2 of “Zen & The Art of Seeking Out The UK’s Butterfly Species by Motorcycle” for Butterfly Conservation Cumbria’s twice yearly newsletter. Content used for this is also planned for a wider project.

26th – 29th August

Bank holiday weekend with Amanda in Aldeburgh, on the Suffolk coast. Our trip included a visit to the Minsmere Reserve and Dunwich Heath Nature Reserves.




10th September

A ride down the “303” and across the Blackdown Hills to see an old friend at Tiverton. The ride back was up and across to Bampton, Wiveliscombe and Taunton, then across the Somerset Levels to Glastonbury, Frome and home to Warminster.





19th September

A ride down to Fuzz’s place at Payhembury near Honiton to discuss our 2024 motorcycle trip to Iceland. Afterwards, we rode to Lyme Regis, finding a few places open despite the Bank Holiday for Queen Elizabeth’s State Funeral.


23rd – 25th September

The last piece of the jigsaw for riding the coast roads of England – from Penzance to Plymouth, even though I’d done bits of it previously. 3rd October

A ride up to Loughborough University for a business conference, taking in Devizes, Marlborough, the edges of Oxford and Towcester, Weedon, then a diversion via Market Harborough and Leicester.









18th October

Completing the design and content of three new Calendars – our 2023 Diving Dreams Calendars, the 2023 Butterfly Effect Calendar and a new Butterfly Effect Infinity Calendar.



11th – 12th November

Following our return from Indonesia, we saw the excellent Porcupine Tree perform at Wembley Arena, and on the following morning, drove to Buckmore Park to see Zac race in the Club100 Series. After that, it was home and several days of jet-lag!


18th November

Our new calendars have arrived – Diving Dreams 2023, The Butterfly Effect 2023 and The Butterfly Effect Infinity. They all look good.




21st November

The Wakatobi Dive Resort in Indonesia display three of Jeremy’s images on the big digital screen at the “Longhouse”. Thanks to Chris Gloor for inviting me to contribute these.







4th December

More work on completing “Motorbutter Cyclefly.” A final draft now exists! Evening at Bournemouth seeing the Ozric Tentacles and Gong.




10th – 11th December

Completing my “Motorbutter Cyclefly” extended feature about tracking down all the UK species of butterfly with my mate Fuzz, using my motorcycle as the means of transport.




27th – 30th December

A visit to the coast of North Norfolk based out of Cromer. During our trip, we visited Blakeney, Wells-Next-The-Sea, Hunstanton and Kings Lynn, as well as the Snettisham and Titchwell RSPB Reserves (sightings included Curlew, Whopper Swan, Redshank, Pink Footed Geese, Knot, Turnstone, Dunlin, Ring Necked Plover and Water Rail). A solo weekend motorcycle trip to London, to grab a bit of “writing time”, and to catch the Californian jazz-fusion guitarist Lee Ritenour perform at Ronnie Scott’s with his band.Rode home via Stockbridge for brunch.

An Easter visit to Cambridge, stopping en route at Wantage and Fermyn Wood on the way up, and Bicester on the return leg. 26th April – 2nd May

A really enjoyable and interesting few days in Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan, for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. A chance to grab a few “snaps”.Great to see Sergio Perez (“Checo”) defeat reigning World Champion Max Verstappen.


3rd May

Working from home in the afternoon, but grabbed an interlude walk up to Battlesbury Hill as the sun was shining. Some Spring butterfly species on the wing such as Brimstone, Green Hairstreak, Orange Tip, Holly Blue and Dingy Skipper, but no sign of the Duke of Burgundies or Marsh Fritillary as yet.


6th May

A ride to Devon to see Fuzz and discuss our upcoming European motorcycle tour. Whilst there, we rode to the Dunsford Wood nature reserve on the edge of Dartmoor, and also continued from there to Morehampstead and Bovey Tracey, which was a nice stint of road.



14th May

A walk up Cotley Hill, not much butterfly action considering the weather and the time of year. A strange Spring.


20th May

A ride to Bristol to collect an intercom system for Fuzz and I, for our European motorcycling trip. I then rode down to Devon to see him, to test it out. We took a ride to Lyme Regis from where I travelled home, via Bridport, Dorchester, Blandford and Shaftesbury.



25th May – 11th June

Motorcycling in Europe with Fuzz. Our trip took us under the English Channel to Calais where our journey started in earnest. We travelled first into Belgium (stopping briefly at Bruges) and into Holland where we stayed at Almere, our base for visiting the excellent Oostvardplassen re-wilding project. 25th June

A day trip with Fuzz on the bikes to the Knepp Wildlands. We saw umpteen Purple Emperors – at least 50, but probably more – perhaps more like 70 or so. A special experience.


29th June – 2nd July

A remote working day based at Petworth in the South Downs, followed by two days in the Knepp Wildlands. Still lots of Purple Emperor action, but nothing like the week before.



15th – 16th July

A visit to the Clay Pigeon Kart Circuit near Yeovil for Zac’s Club 100 series, followed by a visit to London to catch Lakecia Benjamin perform at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London.




27th July

A ride to Alton from MOT, Servicing and Repair work on the R1200 GS Adventure. Went home on a courtesy bike – an 850 GS.


29th July

Return ride to Alton to collect my R1200 GS Adventure – an expensive day. Home via the West Meon crossroads, onto the A272 to Winchester, then Stockbridge, Amesbury, Larkhill, Orcheston and Tilshead.



4th – 5th August

A trip down to Romney Marsh, staying overnight in the historic town of Rye. Zac was competing in his Club 100 Kart series at (a very wet) Lydd.




25th – 29th August

A Bank Holiday weekend stay in the New Forest based at a nice apartment in Lymington. We had a bit of a recharge, and on one of the days went over to the Isle of Wight, to the small historic town of Yarmouth.


29th – 30th August

An overnighter in London to see Goldie perform with his band at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. A very enjoyable gig, and a very unusual one for the venue.



8th – 9th September

An overnighter in South Wales, near Bridgend ahead of Zac’s Club 100 Karting series meeting at Llandow. He secured his first pole position and raced to joint third overall, unfortunately losing out on the podium by a tie-breaker based on race lap time. The margin was about a tenth of a second.


11th – 12th September

A remote working start to the week using trains and coffee shops, with evening at the Pizza Express Jazz Club in London to see John Etheridge perform with his Zappatistas ensemble.



13th September

Booking the ferry for motorcycling Iceland in the Summer of 2024. To go there, we need to ride to Hirtshals in northern Denmark. We’re also planning to hop off in the Faroe Islands for a quick ride around for 3 days. Next, we’ve got to start working on our route and ideas for the trip.





4th January

A trip to Mikes Dive Store in London to buy a new skin (Jeremy) and wetsuit (Amanda). We had a quick stop off in Marlborough on the way, and Windsor on the way back.


5th January

A day of organising, with most time spent on my upcoming Spain, France, Andorra and Portugal motorcycle trip in the Summer.



10th – 12th January

A “birding” stay in the New Forest, based out of a Shepherds Hut in Sway. On the first day, I visited Clay Hill Heath (a wooded area between Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst), Hatch Pond near Beaulieu, finishing with a short visit to Lepe overlooking the Solent.



14th January

The first of some regular sessions with friend, graphic designer and digital all-rounder Darren Haines to work on updating website content.


17th – 19th January

A weekend in the Cotswolds, visiting Ravensroost Wood and Malmesbury on the Saturday and also Cirencester that evening, and on Sunday, attending a Wiltshire Ornithological Society “birding” walk visiting sites around the Cotswold Water Park area where we saw 62 species of bird.


21st January

Another get together with friend, graphic designer and digital all-rounder Darren Haines to work on updating website content.

An overnighter in London to catch a guitar extravaganza at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in the form of “The Great Guitars” featuring Bireli Lagrene, Martin Taylor and Ulf Wakenius. We heard and witnessed a stunning display of virtuosity and musicality.



4th February

Another one of my weekly catch-ups with friend, graphic designer and digital all-rounder Darren Haines to work on updating website content.


7th – 8th February

An overnighter in London to catch PBUG at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London’s Soho district. On the 8th, our son Zac sets off on his travels, starting in Thailand…
